Assessment: An Initial assessment with parent and child is initially conducted to determine the most suitable group or one-to-one intervention prior to placement. At this interview all prior assessments and diagnoses are reviewed. Communication and/or observation with the child’s school is undertaken where appropriate, and all information sources are considered to determine the child’s primary presenting issues and current needs. Where other factors are identified as requiring attention prior to commencement of a social skills programme (e.g., anxiety, low mood, developmental assessment), appropriate recommendations will be made.
Following an initial assessment, the programme is conducted in three weekly blocks of 5 child sessions, 1 parent session, and 1 teacher session (where teacher/school participates in treatment). Typically, these blocks follow the school terms, however an accelerated approach is sometimes considered over long breaks such as Christmas school holidays, particularly where one-to-one treatment choice is appropriate.
Structure: We provide the programme in small groups of 3-4 children, one to one, and these are conducted, at our clinic, or in your child’s home or school environment.
Funding: Clients can obtain a Medicare rebate with a valid Mental Health Care Plan obtained from their GP, and our clients often use NDIS funding to support the intervention.
